Above is a scan of the Pitch Assessment sheet that gives us the framework which we will base our pitch around. The pitch will be recorded and uploaded onto our blog, and it will give us chance to get feedback from classmates that fit the demographic of our target audience. We will have to research our artist and genre, outline what our video will include and give examples of relevant iconography.
The pitch is split into 5 sections:
- Introduction - we will play our chosen song, explain why we have chosen it as well as stating how we will promote our artist to our audience.
- Who is your artist's specific target audience? - We will outline the target audience of our video, which will include age, gender, sexuality and subculture. The target audience is not only people who will listen to the song or watch the video, but people who are likely to go out and pay to go an watch the band live.
- What are the conventions of Form and Genre for your artist? - This section is where we talk about the conventions (shot length, style of editing, pace etc.) of the music video in general and how it differs from other forms of media text (such as TV or film). We will be required to show examples of our chosen bands previous videos and how we will or will not stick with their previous conventions. We will also need to outline how our video will compare to existing examples from our genre, which will also require us to find and play relevant music videos from rival bands within the same genre.
- What content, style and image will your audience expect from your music video for this artist? - This is basically what will be in our video, whether its performance, narrative etc as well as costume, location and shot types. The style of the video regarding mise-en-scene, colours and camerawork of the video. The image of the band and how this will be included in the video as well as looking at images and reviews of the band to get a detailed depiction of their image.
- Tell us what we will se in your video and how this will fill up 3-4 minutes of screen time. - This is the section where we will include the detailed step by step outline of our music video. What happens? What is the narrative? (Explain start/middle/end) Is there performance? How will you keep the audience captivated? Are all questions we will have to answer.
