Lighting on Previous The Futureheads Videos

The Futureheads - First Day

This is the music video for the song First Day by The Futureheads, I have looked at this video to look at the lighting that they have used to help us get a better idea of what sort of lighting to use for the performance in our video. In this video the band is lit from about with a bright light from above, this makes their faces stand out and then it gradually gets darker the further down you look. As you can see the instruments are still well lit. I think that using this lighting means that the band stand out as it is kind of like a spot light effect but for the whole band. The background is quite dark as there is no direct light on it. We are planning to use a similar room which will be lit pretty much the same as the room in this video, the room has fairly dark walls and a bright light on the ceiling so the band will be the main focus in the shot. If we wanted to have more lighting to eliminate the shadows we could use three point lighting, this is three lights pointing in towards the focus area. Similar to this if we wanted to create more shadows we could take lights with us.

The Futureheads - Meantime

Above is another The Futureheads video for the song 'Meantime'. Again, we are looking into the way his video is lit in order to help us decide how we can light our performance sequence of the video. In this video, the wall in the background is a fairly similar to the background at our location (light wood). In their video, the band members cast a shadow on the wall, suggesting they are it by one light from the left hand side of the member. As the video progresses, they move into a darker room, but there is still shadows on their faces, meaning that they are not using three point lighting. The room is rather big and the wall is dark, so because they are a fair distance away from the wall, there are no shadows on it. I will revisit the location to get a better idea about whether three point lighting is needed or if the ceiling lighting is enough and if it will be suitable.
